94 Needs nothing 1 owner base?

What would be a fair price be for this?

94
5-speed
60K miles
1-owner
Full service history
Needs-nothing
Base model
Red
Stock
No hard top

$4500?

Millrat23rd October 2014 13:10

I paid $4000 for a 91 with the same description. Owner wanted $4500 and came down with one sentence. 67K and all service done at 60K. Had records back to purchase and had had the car serviced every six months. I was ready to give him the $4500!!

$4k sounds like a great deal.

I did confirm that this one has AC. Other than that it is totally the base car. Steel wheels and all. I find that appealing. For the right price, of course.

Any more opinions?

It would be a shame to lose it over $500.

I felt fortunate to get the deal I did. I would have paid the $4500 and still felt that I had what I wanted at a good price. Mine didn't have AC but did have LSD. If he won't come down and you pass on a nice one you will regret it!

Ok. Let's modify our assumptions a little:
Needs a new top $500
Needs new shocks $300
Has had TB and WP done.
Has a manual steering rack. Some might see this as a positive.

Now I'm thinking $3500.

Thoughts?

Since I'd be replacing the top myself I think around $4k. If no rust I'd probably offer $3800 or just ask if he has any wiggle room on the price and see what number the seller comes up with.

As for the shocks I would not subtract any because more than likely I would be replacing the shocks and springs with what I wanted anyway.

Steel wheels don't bother me either because I'd be going to 15" in order to get a better selection of tire choices.

Manual versus power steering does not bother me as long as it is how it was when it rolled off the assembly line.

Have all cooling hoses been replaced? Were the crank and cam seals replaced when the TB job was done?

Has the brake and clutch fluid been flushed every couples of years?

I think if no rust and it was in my neck of the woods if the top was a new with zippered window and it had new shocks, even if something like Sensens, he'd be asking over $5K. :dunno:

Becoming rare to find Miatas that have not been slammed for the prices they were selling for 3 or 4 years ago around here. Decent unmodded Miatas seem to sell pretty fast here.

The top would cause me to hesitate at $4000. Mine has no power steering and I don't miss it in this car. It was the completeness of the maintenance records (fluids flushed every 15K etc.) as well as the overall no rust and good paint that convinced me.

One owner, with full service records,tb/wp done, 60k mi.s, na's are getting hard to find. If there are no rust issues you will regret losing this car for 4500$.

huesmann24th October 2014 16:19

A fair price (assuming no rust) would be $5000-5500. If you need to replace parts, start subtracting from there.

Thanks for the replies. I saw it and decided not to. Here is the ad:

http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/cto/4718995249.html

"Red Mazda Miata Convertible. 56,000, one owner, full service history. Only seen rain twice! Garaged and pampered for it's entire life. Second car only used for sunny road trips and weekends. 1994 Mark 1 with pop up headlights.

Very good condition, original paint with little weathering. Some minor stone chips on front. No obvious dents or scratches. Rear window needs some minor re-stiching at some point.

Manual gearbox

Well loved and very reluctant sale. Moving, and don't want to ship across the country."

Nice guy (a Brit like me). Not a car guy, so his idea of pampering not the same as mine. It had been pampered at Jiffy Lube or some such place, if you know what I mean. Filthy engine bay. Oil all over the underside front. Filthy brake and clutch fluid.

Has all VIN stickers except rear bumper. Replaced after a low speed bump. Rust free body. Top has holes, some patched, some not. Needs a new top.

It would need at least $1K to make it needs-nothing. And then you're left with a base model: plastic steering wheel, manual rack, steel wheels, window winders, etc.

He would come down to $4,400. had an "offer for $4,200" from someone else.

If only it was that light blue color...

Miniata24th October 2014 17:20

He should have taken the $4200. I'd love a 1.8L NA with those options, but that car needs some work. Wouldn't pay over $3500 for it, knowing what it needs.

$4500?

I paid 4500 a year ago for basically exactly the car described only with a hardtop and laguna blue. It also needed CAS and an exhaust, tires and rims weren't great either.

I got a good deal, and prices have surely gone up, so even considering the Canada premium, 4500 sounds right in the ballpark.

That's what I told him. $4200 sounds good (for the seller).
